Kenya’s Hospitality Industry to benefit from an all-inclusive insurance cover

…insurer consolidates major risks that will free hotel, pub and restaurant owners from multiple covers

APA Insurance has today launched a product that conveniently captures all the risks inherent in the hospitality industry.

‘Ukarimu Bora’ loosely translated as ‘Great Hospitality’ is an all inclusive insurance package designed to cater for all the insurance needs of Hotels, Pubs and Restaurants with an overall staff base of up to 30 employees.  The single insurance policy seeks to cover all risks faced in the hospitality industry consolidated into one document.

Some of the hospitality industry risks include: property damage, business interruption, loss of money, glass, employers and public liability, WIBA, book debts, and goods in transit.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, APA Insurance Chief Executive Officer Mr. Simon Clayton said it is the aim of the company to have a seamless and simple insurance policy for the hospitality industry that will cover all the normal risks of trading in this sector.

“Through Ukarimu Bora, our clients will enjoy the convenience of a single insurance policy that will provide wide protection as standard and eliminate the hassle of dealing with multiple policies with different renewal dates,” added Mr. Clayton.

This development is a major boost to the industry that has been significant in supporting tourism in the country and which is one of Kenya’s major foreign income earners.  It will enable sector players to concentrate on what they do best, bringing pleasure to their customers, while APA takes on their unforeseen risks.

PERAK Kenya, the umbrella body for Kenya's Restaurants, Bars and Pubs, Entertainment and Theme Parks endorsed the new cover by APA Insurance terming it as a timely and essential development as the industry grapples with the increased and sophisticated risks that are catered for in Ukarimu Bora.

“In the past, insurance covers in this sector have  been complex and involve multiple choices which busy entrepreneurs haven’t got time to worry about.  This is set to change with the supremely simple Ukarimu Bora cover,” said Lilian Kalela, Chief Executive Officer, Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK).

In addition to this cover, APA Insurance will also offer an optional cover for all risks involving accidental loss or damage to specified portable items, as well as terrorism and political violence cover against loss or damage emanating from such events.

“An insurance policy that covers the owner of the business, the employees, property and the patrons all in one is what every investor in the industry needs and this will definitely help  the industry to grow with confidence”, added Kalela

Clayton also noted that the policy has been crafted in simplified language for ease of understanding, key in enabling clients to understand the benefits of buying the policy.

“We have not only packaged major risks into one but also discounted the premium and removed uncertainty of cover.  As it is simply rated, this saves on administration costs and keeps premiums down for clients,” said Mr. Clayton.

APA Insurance is also utilizing user friendly automated system based premium calculator to enable instant quotations and easy access to cover for members of the hospitality industry.

The company will be extending this concept to other industry specific commercial policies in the future for sectors such as: Retailers, Manufacturers, Wholesalers, and Property Owners.
